We're delighted to announce that Freeater has been named the winner of the Barrier Breakers category at VC26, an international venture competition celebrating innovative startups making a difference.
The competition brought together startups from around the world across 10 award categories. After being selected as one of four finalists in the Barrier Breakers category and pitching Freeater to the judges, we were thrilled to be announced as the winner!
What makes this achievement even more meaningful is the timing. Freeater won the award on 29th October 2026, exactly two years after the business was officially registered!
What started as an idea inspired by our founder's own family experiences has grown into a platform helping people with food allergies, coeliac disease and other dietary needs navigate everyday food decisions with greater confidence.
From launching our mobile app to introducing Freeater Shopping, which allows users to scan product barcodes against their personalised dietary profiles, it's been an exciting two years of development, learning and growth.
The Barrier Breakers category feels particularly fitting for Freeater.
For millions of people living with dietary restrictions, everyday activities like eating out with friends or choosing products in the supermarket can present additional challenges.
Freeater was created to help address these barriers through accessible technology, personalised information and a growing community.

Having previously been recognised as finalists and runners-up in several startup competitions, being announced as the VC26 Barrier Breakers winner was an especially exciting moment.
