I recently joined Harrison Chambers as a guest on Lichfield Radio’s SNOOZY Breakfast Show for a conversation about Freeater, Alex and the Feel Good Foods - Childrens's book, and some of what I’ve learned along the way.

ON AIR AT LICHFIELD RADIO
Talking Freeater, food inclusion & the journey so far.
We talked about what Freeater is, why I started it and our mission to help people with food allergies, coeliac disease and other dietary needs feel more confident when eating out and shopping.
Accessibility was a big part of our conversation too. Food information can be difficult to navigate for so many reasons, from tiny writing on packaging and long ingredient lists to managing multiple dietary needs at once.
I also shared some of what I’ve learned while building Freeater, including misconceptions that can exist even around the UK’s 14 major allergens.
It’s one of the reasons we work with a nutritionist throughout the development of Freeater. Their expertise helps inform our Shopping feature, dietary profiles and wider functionality as we work to make the platform as accurate and useful as possible.

BEHIND THE MIC 🎙️
From building Freeater to the story behind the book.
We also spoke about the inspiration behind my children’s book, Alex and the Feel Good Foods.
Part of that inspiration came from hearing about my dad and uncles experiences growing up with dietary restrictions particularly with a gluten intolerance and coeliac disease at a time when there was far less awareness and understanding. I wanted to create a story that could help children with food allergies, coeliac disease and other dietary differences feel seen, while helping other children understand those differences too.
We also chatted about where you can find the book and how its message of inclusion connects with the wider mission behind Freeater.
Of course, it wasn’t all serious! Harrison put me through a quick round of This or That, and I was also asked to choose a song.
At which point, naturally, every song ever written disappeared from my mind except one. 😬
